Chewable Co-Enzyme Q10 tablets, provided by Westlake Laboratories®, contains pure co-enzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) and not shorter isoprenoid chain lipids such as Q9 or Q8 , which can be found as a large constituent of inferior co-Q enzyme products found on the market today. The Co-Q enzyme formulation in the chewable tablet has a unique lipophilic (fat-soluble) base that promotes the absorption of ubiquinone.
As an important rate-limiting nutrient in the electron transport chain of the Mitochondria, Co-enzyme Q10 is a cofactor found to be critical in cellular respiration. Oxidative phosphorylation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxidative_phosphorylation is biochemical pathway through which energy is created from burning nutrients to form adenosine triphosphate (ATP) “the body’s energy currency”. Co-enzyme Q10 is essential for the health of all human organs because nearly all cellular activities are dependent upon energy derived from ATP.
The recent rise in the general popularity of Co-enzyme Q10 stems from data that demonstrates this naturally occurring antioxidant nutrient retards free radical formation in biological systems as well as from studies that suggest the enzyme is important in protecting heart health.
Co-enzyme Q10 is a benzoquinone, whose structure resembles vitamin E and vitamin K but with differing properties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coenzyme_Q10
Biochemically, it can function much like vitamin E, as Co-Q10 participates in antioxidant and free radical scavenging reactions.
Healthy humans who consume a well-balanced diet have the ability to synthesize co-enzyme Q10. Unhealthy individuals and those on an inadequate diet may not synthesize co-enzyme Q10 in sufficient quantity. Specially formulated Chewable Co-Enzyme Q10 tablets may be a useful nutritional adjunct for individuals whose co-enzyme Q10 requirements are not adequately met through endogenous biosynthetic means to produce the molecule, or for those individuals who have difficulty with absorption of fatsoluble nutrients.
The NHANES I and II studies demonstrate that many Americans do not have an adequate diet. Rather, their intake of most water soluble vitamns, vitamin A and some minerals and trace elements is insufficient.
Many of these nutrients are essential for the biosynthesis of co-enzyme Q10. Further, statin drugs are know to inhibit enzyme co Q10. In addition, it has been shown that in disease states, nutrients from food sources may not necessarily be absorbed or bioavailable.
According to Folkers and other experts, co-enzyme Q10 should be considered an essential nutrient, as it is well established that co-enzyme Q10 is essential for the health of every cell in the human body.
